Dr. Joe Sassi, Optometrist

Dr. Sassi has been practicing optometry since 1976 once he graduated from University of Waterloo School of Optometry. He has been an ongoing member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario and Ontario Association of Optometrists since graduation. He opened up his first two locations in Thorold and Port Colborne in 1977. He enjoyed working at both for 15 years before deciding to work solely in Thorold after 1992. He also worked in Barrie for the past 2 years at Cedar Point Optometry. It was here that he was able to work alongside his son Adam who was completing his degree in opticianry at the time. Dr. Sassi is pleased to be opening his new practice in St. Catharines at Lakeshore Eye Care Clinic. When he is not in the office, Dr. Sassi likes walking, reading, and barbecuing for his family. He also enjoys both playing and watching sports. You can often find him on the golf course.

Dr. Sassi is looking forward to continuing to serve the residents of the Niagara region.

Adam Sassi, Optician

Adam graduated with honors from Georgian College in 2018 in Opticianry. The journey to opening Lakeshore Eye Care Clinic is one that has come full circle for Adam. He originally started attending Brock University in pursuit of a business degree. However, this changed when he decided that he wanted to apply for the opticianry program. He switched his major to Biology and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2012. Upon graduating, Adam decided to study in Los Angeles, California at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and obtained his fine arts degree in 2015. To some, it may seem like going from studying biology to acting and ending up in optical is all over the map. However, Adam believes having a science and arts background is very helpful in this profession. He is able to use the functionality of biology and the aesthetics of his art degree in a unique way that allows him to help patients in all areas of eyewear and ocular health.

Kim B., Head Optometric Technician

Kim brings with her over 30 years of experience in the optometry field. She worked with Dr. Sassi in Thorold since 1985, starting off doing recalls before moving into the office in 2011. She also worked for Dr. Beiko and Dr. Sheikh respectively from 2017 to 2019. While she enjoyed her time in ophthalmology, she feels that optometry is where she is most comfortable and is thrilled to join Dr. Sassi in his new clinic. She takes the lead with regards to pre-testing and visual field tests in the office. Outside of work Kim enjoys spending time with her family, taking Zumba and Dancefit classes with her daughter Michaela, and going for walks. Her newest hobby is getting to snuggle her first grandchild, Preslee whenever she can. She is also Bruce Springsteen’s #1 fan and loves to see him in concert whenever he comes to town!

Michaela G., Optometric Technician and Social Media Consultant

Michaela joins the team after previously working full time at Henderson’s Pharmacy for 13 years. She still picks up a shift now and then between working with the medical students at the DeGroote School of Medicine at Brock University. She uses her knowledge gained from her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a concentration in Animal Law to help educate the students on ethics, social change, and awareness. At Lakeshore Eye Care Clinic, she takes care of all of the social media and technology in the office. If you send a message to the Facebook page, she is the one you will be chatting with. She loves getting to work alongside her family every day and learning from her mom Kim. When she is not in the office you will find her onstage in local theater productions, line dancing, or dogwalking as she is often taking care of someone’s animals while they are away. She likes to travel all over the globe with her boyfriend Kyle, but loves spending time with their 4 rescue cats at home even more.
